April 18-25, 2020 at Villa Star of the Sea, Playa Coco, Manzanillo, Mexico
A time and space away
The experience of grief and loss is different for every individual. The purpose of this retreat is to create a safe and sacred space in which to be present with your grief. Gift yourself (or someone you love) a dedicated time and space away from busy everyday life to honour the journey of grieving a loved one.
An expansive beach and luxury B&B
Playa Coco is located on the coastline just north of Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. Villa Star of the Sea offers luxury B&B accommodations for our small, intimate group of 8-10 people. Take time for yourself or share in the daily offerings of healing practices: gentle yoga, pranayama, sacred circles and ceremonies, contemplative writing, massage, private counselling, time with horses and nature.
Pamela Richardson, PhD, will facilitate contemplative writing and offer one-on-one counselling sessions. Pamela’s background in Contemplative Psychotherapy draws from Eastern & Western psychological traditions, through which she has developed a nurturing approach to helping people explore and heal challenging patterns and stuck places. Contemplative writing therapy offers participants with mindfulness and compassion practices that calm the mind, open the senses, and connect with the heart, combined with writing practices to help us engage creatively with our experiences and call our poetic natures into being. Read more about Pamela on her website.
Tia LaVoie brings the gifts of a healer to our group. Under the guidance of her wise woman grandmother and the tutelage of teacher Patrick Collard, Tia was initiated onto “the Path” and has travelled extensively from jungle to desert to highlands to learn from Elders’ Wisdom . Tia will lead our group in creating safe and sacred circles and ceremonies inclusive of all spiritual beliefs to honour our loved ones and our own healing journey. Read more about Tia on her website.

What you can expect
Each day begins with your choice of nurturing activities. If you choose to wake up early, an endless beach with crashing, open-ocean waves stretches out in either direction just steps from the villa pool deck. Perhaps you decide to walk, or perhaps you want to sit with your coffee or juice in a quiet spot and just be. If you want to stretch your body and relax into your breath, a slow, gentle yoga class focused on restorative postures and nurturing pranayama will be followed by breakfast and time to transition into whatever of the day’s activities you choose.
This retreat is designed to provide you with opportunities to connect with yourself and your grief, whatever that means for you in the moment. Opening and closing circles provide space to check in, get connected, and participate in creating a container for a safe and nurturing group. Ceremonies gift experiences of blessing and divine love. Contemplative writing sessions invite you to express and explore and, if you choose, share. Time with horses — whether that is just standing and watching over the fence, breathing with them, grooming, or riding — can offer a deep, emotional healing experience. Time in nature, breathing in the power of the ocean, feeling the warmth of the sun and sand on your feet, propelling yourself on a paddle board over the still water of the lagoon as the sun rises over the jungle … just being in the moment, with no pressure or agenda to be doing anything else … these are the profoundly healing experiences that allow us to connect with ourselves and our individual experiences of grieving the loss of a loved one.
Activities are always optional, and no excuses or explanations are ever needed.
